On Thursday, March 12, the introductory lecture of the Basics of Mainframe Technology course was held, marking the official start of the FERIT Mainframe Academy. Twelve students are now part of the first generation of young mainframers at FERIT.

The course Basics of Mainframe Technology introduces students to the world of Mainframe systems, a critical component of the infrastructure of business and financial systems worldwide. The goal of the course is to provide students with the foundational knowledge necessary to understand the key concepts behind one of the most reliable and secure technological platforms, thereby equipping them to start their careers in the industry.

The introductory lecture was held by the course leader, dr.sc. Zdravko Krpić, with the support of teaching assistant Luka Kaučić and Željimir Brkljača from IBM. In the future, both theoretical and practical parts of the course will involve experts from IBM, CROZ, and other technological partners of the Academy.

The curriculum includes a total of 5 theoretical lectures, each lasting 2 school hours as well as 7 laboratory exercises, each lasting 3 school hours, and a final project. All students will have the opportunity for mentorship and consultations with experienced industry experts. Additionally, students will have access to Interskills training and the opportunity to earn relevant technological certifications.

Beyond the subject and technology, students are also being introduced to a new community that will be active at FERIT, with opportunities for internships, attending conferences, international collaboration, and a range of other benefits.
